Yup. I said STORAGE. The President of Home Depot stated just this month in June that he sees storage as the up and coming huge money-maker of the near future. Why? Boomers are down-sizing, Millenials are moving....a lot! Everyone is going to college, and we are changing our environment constantly. That means, we have to have a place to temporarily store our stuff. Yes, he also said it was boring. But he likes boring and so do I. Stable, repeatable, straight forward, few moving parts and needed wherever there are people who like their stuff.


Owning a storage franchise model means you are going to be investing heavily up front. Lots of high assets are required: trucks or vans, storage units (100), property, warehouse. All up front. But after you are up and running you are set for a very long time. This business requires few employees, a small amount of marketing, some creative thinking (remember, college students need storage as much as the elderly- how do you market to both effectively?) Doing this on your own is one way to do it ( not smart). Going the franchised business route is the BEST way. Why? because the marketing makes the brand and the brand brings in the business. You wont' be sorry to have the 'heavy lifting' done for you. It's well worth going with a group that is aggressively 'moving' people in your direction. Ha!

OK. These are all the rage. Cycling, Yoga, Pilates, One-on-One Personal coaching, Boxing, High-Intensity-Interval-Training.... Pick your favorite and you can have a thriving business in it.

But the marketing strategy for boutique and specialized gyms is different today that it was in Jack Lelains' day ( if you don't remember him, Google him, the first and greatest exercise nut of all time!) You'll be raising funds for charities, networking with corporation leaders, speaking to not only your niche market, but those who are just curious as well.  Boutique and Niche are very different from the big box One-size-fits-all mentality and you'll have fun sharing your vision with your community.

You might think that all your business acumen will make owning a consulting business easy, and that your clients will just line up outside your door for you services. 

WRONG. While you may be fantastic as what you do, (and congratulations for building your career as far as you have, on your own!)you won't start out with the reputation, or the name recognition that will allow you to start really strong.

That does NOT mean you should not go into B2B Consulting and Training.  It means you need a vehicle through which you utilize your skills and get the marketing boost you need to truly thrive. Brand Name, recognizable training that has a global reputation, are the vehicles you want working for you. That way you can  put your energy and your skills to productive work immediately and start seeing fast success. 

Marketing, technology, curriculum, backed funding (for financial services) all support your business, allowing you to be the face of your business, the talent of your business, the true commodity.  



Owning a B2B Consulting/Training or funding business is not for the faint of heart. While you are supported, you still need to get your clients. Getting your clients is significantly easier when you are presenting your services backed by a recognized brand name and not just Joe-Schmo who used to work at yadda-yadda Inc. (right?)  

For some consulting franchises you'll be trained in their curriculum and training style. You'll train individuals, you'll train teams,  you'll train entire companies- it all depends on how big you want to go. 

Others, you'll be trained in how to run a round-table support groups. Small business owners meet monthly and you facilitate their discussion topics. You also do one-on-one consulting, and training with each round-table member.  

A Business Financing Business takes a lot of financial backing. Some franchises match your investment, others discount, some do factoring. 

Whatever franchise you invest your time with, you'll be the face, you'll get your clients, you'll reap the benefits. Not all B2B services are home-based, no-employee models, but many are. With some you'll build a team and mange them. It all depends on what YOU want, and how you see yourself in your new role as a B2B consultant.

Contrary to what you've heard, retail opportunities are NOT dead. Not if you invest in the right retail opportunity, that is. 

While it's true that Amazon is eating up retail opportunities like PacMan, there are still some safe-havens for the retail platform. One just has to know which products are PacMan...er...Amazon resistant. Most retail opportunities that have staying power are the ones that require a hands-on experience, or expertise in consulting before purchasing. Some products are simply not "online freindly", and most service industries require retail hours to be successful. Used clothing, or re-purposing clothing is such an industry. Health products and services like massages, beauty services are retail hour dependent. While inventory is part of the retail experience,the concept has changed dramatically. Many retail franchises have moved to the  'sample-then-order' model, where the store is an experience in service and the product is special ordered for the customer. Low inventory, specific inventory,  coupled with extraordinary personal attention is becoming the way retail thrives. Sure, there will always be the 'dollar store' experience, but there are lots of people who still want the high-end service for high-end products experience. 

Owning a retail franchise is often a semi-absentee ownership opportunity, which means you will be hiring a manager to manage the store, and will be paying a few employees F/T salaries and  several employees P/T hourly wages.

Your biggest asset, after choosing the product you provide will be the service you offer. You are creating experience, now, more than inventory.
