FranchiseInsider Candy Spill #17: Interior Decorating

CANDY SPILL   #17

Interior Decorating

Just One More Franchise Opportunity
(that you probably didn't know you could own)

Many Interior Decorators just get some business cards printed up and pass them out to friends and family. That's one way to run a business. Keep it small and hope your friends like what you do to their living rooms... But a franchised Interior Decorating business has much more effective marketing and clout behind it. Technology abounds, variety abounds, and the connections with vendors all make the Interior Decorating franchise the power house it is. Discounts for supplies, latest and greatest technology that helps the client visualize what their new blinds, flooring, kitchen cabinets, storage unit will actually look like. No measuring mistakes or headaches, no 'product' clogging up  your garage. This is a fun business that utilizes  and depends on strong people and planning skills.

As an owner of an interior decorating franchise you make connections,  network, advertise (which is created and ready for you to upload on to your local website) and work with your clients to plan their rooms, windows, garages, etc. You hire contractors to install. All training is provided by the franchisor (as is true for every franchise), as is the website, marketing materials, connections with vendors. This is a franchise where your strongest asset is not necessarily good taste, but great people skills.  Most Interior decorating business are home-based, so your time is flexible, your overhead is very low, your inventory is nil. You'll go to your client's homes or offices, work forma computer program and have some samples with you. Some very successful franchisees scale up to a small display-type office space, but most find it an unnecessary expense. Just hop in your car and start helping your clients improve their home or office environment.

It's not rocket science to own your own business. It's just different from the masses. A great business isn't for everyone, but it might be for you...
